Fundraising Ideas for Homeschoolers
Well, it's inevitable, you have to "sell" something to raise "funds". The key is finding what will sell quickly and easily, and you can sell a lot of. You can also sell your time.
Since we are coming up on summer, here's a great idea - grabbed this from a charter school who successfully runs this campaign every year - sell Otter Pops! What they did was freeze them, then put them in a rolling ice chest and they sold them before and after school every day for a quarter each. They racked up enough dough in a couple months to send two entire 5th grade classrooms to Sea world! If you live in a very warm area, you may have to buy some dry ice. But what a super spin on the lemonade stand - you could sell them for .35 each or two for .50 to pump up your sales! You can get a large box reasonably priced at WalMart or Sam's Club. Bring a pair of scissors to snip the tops so customers can eat them easily.
Car wash - Superstores like WalMart or KMart may schedule your group if you want to do a car wash, the local booster clubs usually do well with this. Try other locations like the grocery store or anyone who has a lot of foot traffic and the people will be busy while you wash the car. Here's a better idea than standing on the corner waving signs - PRE-SELL tickets to your car wash! Chances are you will sell way more tickets than those who actually show up.
Spaghetti Dinner or Benefit - No doubt about it, spaghetti is cheap. Again, always pre-sell your tickets so you have a good idea of how many are coming. It might be fun to provide entertainment too. You can target a specific group of people - such as senior citizens - and instead of selling tickets to the seniors, ask neighbors to sponsor the senior's ticket. Remember that senior citizens prefer an earlier dinner, and many don't like to drive after dark.
Bake Sale - Very profitable for many groups! Be sure to individually wrap the goodies. Check events that might be happening around town to see if you can set up a table.
Auction or Rummage Sale - Yard sales too, all are a great way to not only raise money, but clear out all that stuff you said you would one day use.
Tutoring - this can be great for older kids who are ready for leadership responsibilities, and it's really beneficial for the moms who need help. From math, to science, to reading and spelling, your teens and tweens are going to enjoy this more than babysitting. Post a message on your local homeschool groups and watch it grow.
